Communitea is a vegetarian café in the heart of South Norwood, that’s all about change. They came up with the idea of Yalla Hub, an initiative to bring change to migrant women, working in the UK. Most migrants, particularly women, experience many hardships when looking for work in a new country due to gender bias, ethnicity and citizenship status.
Yalla Hub aim to combat this by creating spaces that allow women to grow in knowledge, experience and gain support. They also encourage women to maintain a good work-life balance.
Out of this, Communitea Cafe was born and is the home of Yalla Hub. It serves as the initiatives trading arm and offers a space where migrant women can grow toward financial stability.
Communitea is not only a social space, but a delicious vegetarian restaurant cafe as well. Their menu includes sweet and savoury bagels, smashed avocado on toast, chickpea pancakes, grilled haloumi wraps and salads, hummus dips, and snack pots of olives.
At Communitea Cafe, they also regularly host classes and worships that help migrant women in the UK find start their own businesses. They encourage creative expression and women empowerment, whilst maintaining a holistic approach to entrepreneurship as well as mental wellbeing.
