Greggs’ Vegan Sausage rolls have landed in the UK and are flying off the shelves. They have become so popular that the bakery chain is struggling to keep up with the demand. For only £1 these unmissable treats are something of a miracle for vegans and vegetarians looking for an on the go snack.
The vegan sausage roll was created by Greggs’ after over 20,000 people signed an online petition organised by PETA that called on more bakeries to produce vegan variants of their best selling products. Greggs’ took on the challenge and after a year of testing and perfection launched the vegan sausage rolls in the market.
Greggs’ vegan sausage rolls are made with Quorn wrapped in puff pastry and have been well received since they launched for Veganaury this year in 2019.
The chief executive of Greggs’ says that he was quite surprised at the popularity and level of response these vegan delights have received. Furthermore, the bakery chain has also benefited from positive publicity and now aim to constantly deliver the products out to market as quickly as possible.
Due in part to the popularity of their new product, Greggs’ has made a fantastic profit. Amidst a backdrop of retailers struggling with rising costs and tightening markets, Greggs’ shares have jumped a whopping 7%.
The sausage rolls have certainly received their fair share of attention from both the media and celebrities alike. Piers Morgan cause a stir by saying that ‘nobody was waiting for a bloody vegan sausage’ in response to the official launch.
Greggs’ of course had their own comeback to the remark, ‘oh Piers, we’ve been waiting for you.’
